Hanging out in the ER

Well... on Saturday night, Jillian spiked a 104.6 fever (according to our thermometer) with a bad cough and I was a little worried because she was so lethargic and the motrin hadn't kicked in yet. So.... We took her to the ER. It was empty. Completely. We went right back to a room and I was thinking, COOL! Yeah. Not cool. The doctor must have been bored or just had a wicked sense of humor! Jillian's fever had finally dropped (seems like that happens the minute you cross the ER threshold!) She examined her and asked me to get a urine sample. From a three year old. (Or have a catheter put in!?! No way.) So, I took her to the restroom and spent 30 minutes trying to get her to pee and then getting peed on as I tried to get some in the cup - all the while she was screaming bloody murder. I'm sure the ER staff were totally entertained. I was not! After that, the doc ordered a chest x-ray. Jillian rocked at that. She got three stickers! Yay! Next it was some swabs up her nose to test for the flu. Waited a little and then it was blood cultures. They stuck a needle in my baby and took some blood. Jillian loves going to the doctor. She is totally good. She just sits and talks their ears off and does just what they ask - until they want to stick a rubber band around her arm and squeeze it to death and poke her with a needle and get blood out!!! Then she starts to cry a little - but she never freaks out... just whimpers and looks up at me and her dad with her big blue eyes that rip our hearts out. Man. She is such a sweetheart! The last torture they prescribed was two shots of rocephin in the booty. Yep. Shots. Poor Jilli had had enough and she did NOT want those shots... but she took them. She had three band-aids and the sympathy of her mom, dad and brother and sister for the rest of the night... Anything she wanted she got! And what did she want? Ice cream. Love this kid. She's so great and easy to please. And is feeling MUCH better by the way...

Your kids are so cute... even in the ER. I'm glad it was nothing serious and that Jilli is feeling better. She is such a sweetie.

Wow, a family outting! Not too fun. My sweet Rylie was that way too...when we took her to the ER, same thing, then for follow up visits, at least twice in a row, she screamed! Dr. Lish made it better with sweet candy and his sweetness. We're back on track...well, at least until the next stinkin' immunization! DARN! So glad to hear Jilli bean is doing okay. :)
